On Friday, February 2, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Shalar Geldynazarov, met with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Tharaka Balasuriya.

During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the expansion of bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian areas were discussed. In particular, it was noted that there was potential for cooperation in the parliamentary sphere, in the oil and gas and chemical industries, the transport and logistics sector, the textile industry, tourism and education, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Particular attention was paid to expanding cultural ties between countries. In this regard, the ambassador spoke about this year’s celebration at the international level of the 300th anniversary of the great poet and thinker of the East Magtymguly Fragi.

Earlier, Ambassador Geldynazarov presented his credentials to the President of Sri Lanka.

Turkmenistan and the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in April 1996.
