PETRONAS and Turkmengaz to build water supply for seaside villages

Today, on January 31, in the early morning on the coast of the Caspian Sea, in the Turkmenbashi district of the Balkan region, a ceremony was held to lay a water pipeline that will supply clean drinking water to the villages of Guvlymayak and Kiyanly. Today, on January 31, in the early morning on the coast of the Caspian Sea, in the Turkmenbashi district of the Balkan region, a ceremony was held to lay a water pipeline that will supply clean drinking water to the villages of Guvlymayak and Kiyanly. This joint social project of the PETRONAS Charigali company and the state concern Turkmengaz is designed to significantly improve the water supply to the local population.

The ceremony, which took place near the seawater desalination plant, was attended by representatives of the PETRONAS Charigali, headed by Vice President for International Assets Mark Fitzgerald, the Turkmengaz concern, the administration of the Turkmenbashi district, the management of the Turkmenbashiagyzsuv enterprise and the villages of Guvlymayak and Kiyanly, along with honorary elders of the local community.

All these people gathered this morning with only one purpose - to kick off construction of 7-kilometer water pipeline from the existing desalination plant to residential villages as part of Water for Life Project.

Importance of this joint Project of PETRONAS and State Concern Turkmengaz cannot be overestimated. Historically, residents used trucked water for water supply needs, which was inconvenient and it affected budget of home owners. Now citizens have confidence that in the near future there will be no such problem anymore. After completion of this significant social Project within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility, life giving liquid will be available to every house; and there are more than thousand houses in these villages.

The design capacity of water supply system of 65 m3/hr will meet needs of all segments of population, and also make it possible to increase the growth of private households and significantly improve quality of life. The Water for Life Project itself includes construction of a pumping station at the seawater desalination plant, a main water pipeline, two 200 m3 tanks each in Kiyanly village and two 400 m3 tanks each in Guwlymayak village, as well as an extensive water supply system in both villages.

It is important to highlight that all social initiatives of the Company are carried out in accordance with the purposes and objectives of Turkmenistan Government with regards to improvement of living conditions, education and healthcare. In his speech, the Vice President of International Assets - Mr. Mark Fitzgerald emphasized that PETRONAS has always provide support and will continue to support implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, and Water for Life Project is not the last CSR initiative. He expressed his sincere esteem for hospitality shown during his first visit to Turkmenistan and thanked the communities of Kiyanly and Guwlymayak villages for warm welcome and words of gratitude to PETRONAS.

After that the respected elders of local community kicked off a construction work, and the first joint of the water pipeline was made in the presence of the Ceremony participant. The national dance Kusht Depdi delighted the audience and left pleasant memories of the event.

At the end of the Ceremony, all participants moved to School No.7 of Kiyanly village which was renovated by the Company together with the State Concern Turkmengaz in 2023. In commemoration of the visit to Turkmenistan, the delegation of PETRONAS together with representative of the state authorities of Turkmenistan planted tree seedlings as a sign of respect and long-term partnership.
