The Balkan shipyard is capable of building sea vessels for cargo transportation from Central Asia to the EU

The new Balkan shipyard, which started ship construction for the first time in Turkmenistan this year, together with its partners plans to put into operation the first dry cargo ship in 14 months of production, the second two months later and the third two months later.
Such terms of shipbuilding are the most optimal in the region, since usually the full commissioning of a marine vessel takes at least three years. This was stated by Deputy Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Batyr Annayev at the session "Quick Wins, big impact – short-term investment opportunities for Trans-Caspian transport links" during the Global Gateway Investor Forum in Brussels.
Turkmenistan also plans to start building RO-RO ferries, despite the fact that the capacity of the national shipyard is designed for the construction of 4 ships and the repair of 20 ships per year. According to preliminary calculations, to establish additional container shipments of 5 million tons per year between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku, production of at least 20 more bulk carriers will be required. And investments will play a key role in bringing the Turkmen shipbuilding industry to full capacity.

At the same time, at the parallel session of the Global Gateway "Crossing the Caspian Sea: Turning a bottleneck into a key connection", Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Agency for Maritime and River Transport and Acting Director of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport Seyitguly Bayseidov spoke.
He stressed that the Turkmenbashi International Seaport is located at the intersection of the Europe-Asia cargo routes and provides a vital link for the landlocked countries of Central Asia, offering them an economically advantageous route for trade.
Noting that the Government of Turkmenistan has invested 1.5 billion US dollars in the construction of the new port, Bayseidov pointed to its capacity of 17 million tons of various types of cargo and commitment to the principles of sustainable development: in 2023, the port received a Green Port certificate from SLC ECO with the support of the OSCE.
Turkmenistan will also join the Convention of the International Maritime Organization on the Facilitation of Maritime Transport, which will allow the creation of a single window system in the near future at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
