Global Gateway: Brussels announced the EU’s decision to invest €10 billion in the Trans-Caspian corridor

The Global Gateway Investor Forum on Transport links between the EU and
Central Asia opened today, January 29, in Brussels, bringing together
governments, financial institutions, business and civil society from Europe, Central
Asia, as well as the countries of the Caucasus and Turkey, the "Big Seven". Valdis
Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, announced
that the European and international financial institutions attending the forum will
allocate 10 billion euros to support and invest in sustainable transport links in

The delegation of Turkmenistan at the Investor Forum included Deputy Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Annayev, Deputy Chairman of the agency “Turkmen Railways” Bekmyrat Ishangulyev, Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Water Transport Seyitguly Bayseidov, General Director of the Open Joint Stock Company “Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan” Merdan Bashimov, as well as Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov.

During the forum, participants will discuss the necessary investments to transform the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor into a modern, multimodal and efficient route connecting Europe and Central Asia in 15 days.

The Investor Forum is based on the results of the study “Sustainable Transport Links between Europe and Central Asia”, conducted in June 2023 under the leadership of the European Commission and conducted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). They were presented at the 2nd EU- Central Asia Economic Forum, which took place in May 2023 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Turkmen delegation also has a number of bilateral meetings planned.
