Members of the European Parliament adopted a resolution to review the European Union's strategy towards Central Asia, which was adopted in 2019.

On Wednesday, January 17, in Strasbourg, 543 parliamentarians supported it, 42 voted against, 44 abstained. The resolution calls on the EU to expand political and economic cooperation with Central Asian states.

As the document emphasizes, Central Asia is a strategically important region for the European Union in terms of security and transport routes, as well as diversification of energy and resources, and the development of effective trade corridors between Europe and Asia. In addition, the two regions have other important common interests and common goals, for example in areas such as climate change, DW wrote on Wednesday.

The document urges the EU to intensify engagement with Central Asia, given the geostrategic importance of the region, and to promote partnerships with the countries of the region by expanding cooperation at the political and economic level, as well as to explore the possibility of European Investment Banks supporting investments in infrastructure development in the Central Asian states, especially in the Middle Corridor.

The deputies noted that the European Parliament is ready to promote parliamentary cooperation with the countries of Central Asia.
