President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas on Wednesday, January 17. The guest conveyed greetings from the leaders of the European Union to the head of state and expressed the EU's interest in expanding dialogue with Turkmenistan, the Turkmen State Television news outlet reported.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed the opinion that the visit of the Vice-President of the European Commission to Ashgabat and the negotiations held within its framework with Turkmen colleagues will allow discussing new directions and prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union.

The President of Turkmenistan noted the successful implementation of a number of EU regional projects, including such projects as "Sustainable Energy Links in Central Asia"/SECCA, "Dialogue and Action for Resourceful Youth in Central Asia"/DARYA, Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia/BOMCA 10, Drug Prevention Program in Central Asia/CADAP.

It was noted that leading European companies are currently represented in many sectors of the Turkmen economy: in the oil and gas industry, electric power industry, construction, communications and communications industry.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Margaritis Schinas discussed the prospects for cooperation in key areas, and in this context, attention was paid to the upcoming EU-CENTRAL Investment Forum on sustainable transport in Brussels at the end of January. Turkmenistan intends to take an active part in the work of this forum, as transport and logistics cooperation between the regions will open up great opportunities for cooperation with the European Union and will turn the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor into a multimodal, stable and competitive route connecting Central Asia and Europe.
