According to the Afghan Ministry of Trade and Industry, trade turnover between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan amounted to $481 million in 2023. This information was reported to the online publication TOLOnews by a representative of the department, commenting on the meeting of the acting Minister of Trade and Industry with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul.
It is noted that the parties discussed a number of trade issues, including expanding the export of Afghan marble to Turkmenistan, and agreed to hold an exhibition of Afghan products in Ashgabat.
Afghanistan hopes to increase its export volumes in 2024, also counting on the possibility of increasing the transit of its goods through Turkmenistan to other countries, for example, Kazakhstan. This opinion was expressed by the Chamber of Commerce and Investment of the neighboring country.
According to the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Trade, electricity, petroleum products and LNG are among Turkmenistan's key exports to Afghanistan, while Afghanistan mainly supplies Turkmenistan with marble and some types of agricultural products.
