Houbara Bustard and the possibilities of its breeding in Turkmenistan

One of the rare species of migratory birds living in the desert and steppe regions is the houbara bustard or wobble. In many countries, including Turkmenistan, it is listed in the Red Book as a threatened species. In Turkmenistan, the houbara bustard, belonging to the crane-like order, is widespread from the Karakum and Caspian deserts to the Etrek river valley, the foothill plain of Kopetdag and Badhyz. In order to maintain a constant population of birds, students of the Engineering University of Turkmenistan named after Oguz Khan Uzukzhemal Bekmuradova and Khazretguly Charyberdiev presented a draft of a bird complex for breeding houbara bustard. The farm with an area of 12 hectares will be located in the Balkan region, in the areas of Gumdag, Ekerem, Esenguly. The complex includes appropriate laboratories, incubation workshops, a department for breeding and caring for chicks, as well as premises for staff. The farm will provide jobs for about 200-250 people. Bustard meat has many useful properties, helps in the treatment of cancer, and protein can be obtained from recycled poultry internals, which should subsequently be used as a natural feed for birds. “Breeding bustard is similar to raising chickens,” says Khazretguly. - Already within 21-22 days, eggs of birds mature in incubators. For example, now quail breeding is the most cost-effective poultry farming. In many countries, similar enterprises already exist. For example, in neighboring Uzbekistan, near the city of Navoi, there is a center for the conservation of houbara bustard, created on the initiative of the UAE.
