Ashgabat and Tashkent agreed to increase mutual trade up to $ 500 million


Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks at the Kuksaroy State Residence in Tashkent, TDH reports.
During the meeting, issues of strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the economic, political, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres were discussed. There was also an exchange of views on international and regional issues.
After the tete-a-tete meeting, the heads of the states continued negotiations with the participation of official delegations of the two countries. The main attention was paid to the further development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the website of the government of Uzbekistan informs.
In the first quarter of 2018, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan increased by 55 percent. Agreements reached earlier began to yield results. The two neighboring countries have broad mutually reinforcing opportunities, which should be used to increase the volume and range of trade turnover. There are untapped opportunities to bring the volume of trade to $500 million by 2020. For this, the parties indicated the need to develop cooperation in the field of transport and transit, as well as to maximize the potential of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation.
The sides underlined the efficiency of five-sided format of cooperation in the Central Asian region to provide security and sustainable economic and social development in the region. Therefore, the Turkmen leader has proposed the opportunity of the establishment of advisory body of the heads of Central Asian states.
Mutually beneficial agreements have been reached on joint production of agricultural machinery, automobiles and electrical equipment, delivery of oil and oil products, expansion of trade between border regions, and other issues.
