Saudi Arabia expands use of AI to guide pilgrims in Mecca

Saudi Arabia's General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has deployed artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and a range of digital technologies to offer guidance and advisory materials to visitors and pilgrims at the Grand Mosque, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Using 52 screens both inside and outside of the Grand Mosque, covering a total area of 279 square meters, authorities disseminate specially designed instructional content.
A dedicated team selects content according to specific cases and also translates it into several languages. The screens, operating 24/7, are located at entrances, exits, courtyards and on roads leading to the Grand Mosque. In addition, an innovative initiative using artificial intelligence was previously presented: a “robot guide” designed to assist pilgrims inside the Grand Mosque.
This interactive robot contains informative and guiding content that allows users to access and share it through their mobile phones, Gulf Today reports.
Available in 11 languages, including Arabic, English, French, Russian and Chinese, the robot is equipped with a 21-inch touchscreen, offering a range of services specifically designed for visitors to the Grand Mosque.
Designed with mobility in mind, the robot features four wheels and an intelligent parking system for smooth, agile movements. It also boasts high-resolution front and bottom cameras to capture detailed photos of your surroundings.
Operating on a high-speed 5GHz Wi-Fi network, the robot promises fast and efficient data transfer, reflecting the Grand Mosque's commitment to combining tradition with technological advancements for the benefit of its visitors.
