The novel of Atajan Tagan "Stranger" will be published in French

In Ashgabat an exhibition-competition of the illustrations devoted to the historical -documentary novel of Turkmen writer Atajan Tagan "Stranger" took place. The action was organized by the French institute.
Earlier, within the framework of the project on translation of this literary work into French, the French institute announced a competition among Turkmen artists on the best illustration for the cover of the future book.
In the creative competition 14 artists who have proposed projects absolutely different in style, participated. The goal set before competitors stood uneasy, after all, first of all the reader pays the attention to the book cover.
Among participants of the exhibition-competition were both professional artists - Mojek Charyev, Aya Serhenova, Begench Berekliev and novice artists whose names are not known yet enough - Gulshat Bayrieva, Tajigul Kurbanova, Bayram Nuryev and others.
The drama destiny of French topographer George Henri de Blokvill participating in the expedition of the Persian army and was captured on the Turkmen land, laid a basis of the work by Atajan Tagan. The novel "Stranger" who won popularity among foreign reader's audience was translated into several languages of the world, and the performance put on the basis of work by Tagan, for a long time and with success goes on the stage.
In Ashgabat the Russian drama theatre named after Pushkin "enlivened" heroes of the legendary work. In the theatre repertoire not the first year appears the performance "Perengli" («We will necessarily meet»). The theatrical performance created on motives of the novel, immerses the spectator into the ancient life of Turkmen. And it, perhaps, is the best performance to receive representation about people’s history, country and its customs.
Therefore this performance goes on tour abroad more often. As a captive Frenchman unfamiliar with the traditions of the people of the east, the foreign public opens for itself doors into a novel world, desperately worrying about the destiny of the foreigner, and like the sympathy for the people who have given him a shelter on the foreign land.
And now the performance continues to please fans of theatrical art in Turkmenistan and for this reason the French institute has given visitors of the exhibition a possibility to win theatre tickets to the play «We will necessarily meet», taking part in voting for the best cover and in draw of tickets.
Among the guests of honour who visited the cultural action, was the ambassador of France in Turkmenistan François Delahousse and writer Atajan Tagan who has celebrated this year his 80th anniversary.
- De Blokvill spent 14 months in captivity in the territory of Turkmenistan, - Atajan Tagan tells. - And when I had the luck to read the historical documents confirming the reality of this history, I decided to write a book about it. As they say, the book has turned out good. It was published with big circulations in the different countries of the world in several languages. Today I am grateful to Mr Delahousse and workers of the French institute that they do all their best so that their fellow countryman, their hero, after Turkmen and Russian languages, has started to talk in French.
The smallest pupils of the French institute have prepared for visitors an exhibition a small dramatized sketch - children studying the French language, have tried to play characters of heroes of the historical novel by Atajan Tagan.
And the name of a winner of the competition will become known next week - following the results of voting of spectators and professional jury for the best cover for the French edition of the novel "Stranger" will be chosen.
