Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the next meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg, focused on the development of the North-South corridor with access to the states of the Middle East, Iran, Pakistan and India.

"For the further development of the corridor, a joint venture of logistics companies from Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan is being created. I suggest that railway administrations from other EAEU countries join this work," Tokayev said, according to Akorda's website.

The leader of Kazakhstan also said that the republic plans to launch 5 cross-border transport and logistics hubs on the borders with Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and the Caspian Sea. In the near future, there are plans to build 1,300 kilometers of new railways, dry ports, as well as a seaport in Bandar Abbas, Iran.

The Kazakh transport and logistics company KTZ Express, JSC Russian Railways Logistics and JSC Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan signed a memorandum on the establishment of a joint venture for the development of transportation in April this year. The purpose of the joint venture will be to create a single logistics operator on the eastern route of the international North–South transport corridor.

The parties agreed to combine their competencies to form competitive tariff rates and "seamless" transportation of goods from Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan to Iran, India, countries of the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region with the participation of border crossings Aksarayskaya, Ozinki, Bolashak, Inche-Burun, Serakhs and in the opposite direction.
