The UN has adopted two resolutions on the initiative of Turkmenistan – on energy and transport
The UN General Assembly at the 48th plenary session of the 78th session, on Tuesday, December 19, adopted two resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan – on energy and transport.
The resolution "The key role of reliable and stable energy connectivity in ensuring sustainable development" was co-sponsored by 38 States.
The resolution calls for continued international cooperation in ensuring reliable and stable energy connectivity at the national, regional and global levels in order to promote economic integration and sustainable development, including access to affordable, reliable and modern energy sources for all, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in a statement.
Earlier, Turkmenistan proposed to hold an international meeting of experts in early 2024 to discuss strategies and development of cooperation in the field of energy connectivity and mobility of energy resources, recognizing their key role for sustainable development and meeting the needs of countries with limited domestic energy resources.
Another resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on the proposal of Turkmenistan is called "Strengthening links between all modes of transport to achieve Sustainable Development Goals." It was co-sponsored by 47 States.
It calls on Member States to support the continuous operation and strengthening of the transport system and transport infrastructure in all aspects of sustainable development.
Turkmenistan has initiated the creation of effective international platforms for dialogue in this important area. In 2016, the 1st UN Global Conference on Sustainable Transport was successfully held in Ashgabat, and in the summer of 2022, a Conference of Ministers of Transport of Landlocked Developing Countries, organized in cooperation with the United Nations, was held in Turkmenbashi.
