The countries of the region will create a Working Group on the shallowing of the Caspian Sea


The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Expert Group created within the framework of the Framework Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea. The meeting took place on December 18-19 in Baku and brought together authorized representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs and environment of all Caspian countries, as well as employees of the European regional office of the UN Environment Program, which serves as the secretariat of the Convention, Azertaj reports.
The parties held discussions to agree on institutional mechanisms related to the location of the Secretariat of the Convention in the region, experts are preparing relevant documents. The institutional mechanisms of the Secretariat of the Tehran Convention were discussed, and conceptual issues of creating a Working Group on the shallowing of the Caspian Sea were also considered.
The decision to create a Special Working Group was made at a meeting of the ministers of ecology of the Caspian countries, held in the Swiss city of Geneva on September 21-22 of this year.
