Turkmenistan and the EU discussed cooperation in the field of human rights


On December 18, a dialogue between representatives of Turkmenistan and the European Union took place in the Belgian capital. The agenda includes an exchange of views on cooperation in the field of human rights.
The Turkmen delegation, headed by the Director of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan Yagmur Nuriyev, included the Ombudsman, employees of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs and Adalat (Ministry of Justice) Among the EU delegates are employees of the Central Asia Department of the European External Relations Service, representatives of the Directorate General for International Partnerships of the European Commission and the Office of the EU Special Representative for Central Asia. The heads of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium and the EU Delegation in Turkmenistan joined the conversation via video link.
During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025 and focused on strengthening the legal system and increasing responsibility in this area. The delegates also analyzed in detail the activities of the Ombudsman's office in 2023.
