The 22nd meeting of the joint Committee of Turkmenistan and the European Union was held in the historical center of European diplomacy – Brussels, on Tuesday, December 19. This forum acted not only as a platform for analyzing the most important aspects of bilateral relations, including trade and energy, but also as a catalyst for strengthening mutual understanding between the parties in key economic areas.

The discussions focused on the macroeconomic situation of Turkmenistan and its aspirations for integration into the world economy, especially in the context of the country’s preparations for membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). This underlines the role of Turkmenistan as an active participant in global economic processes.

The delegation of Turkmenistan at the meeting was headed by Minister of Finance and Economy and Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee Serdar Jorayev. The delegation also included key figures, including Deputy Minister of Education A.Atayev, high-ranking representatives of the State Concern Turkmengaz and the Agency Turkmenhowayollary, as well as representatives of other relevant ministries.

On the part of the European Union, the delegation was led by Luc Devigne, Deputy Managing Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the European External Relations Service (EEAS). Representatives of various directorates of the

European Commission dealing with international partnerships, trade, energy, mobility and transport, climate change, the environment, as well as research and innovation were present.

Special attention was paid to energy and environmental issues at the meeting. Turkmenistan, which has significant natural gas reserves, is a key player in this area. Gas export strategies, initiatives to reduce methane emissions, as well as the development of renewable energy sources, including hydrogen, were considered. These issues highlighted Turkmenistan’s potential as an important energy partner for the EU.
