A meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was held in Moscow. Diplomats discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts and interaction between the two countries on international platforms.

“Current issues of bilateral relations, including the schedule of upcoming contacts, as well as interaction on international platforms were discussed,” a message published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry says following the negotiations.

The parties confirmed their “mutual commitment to further strengthening the Russian-Turkmenistan strategic partnership and developing multifaceted cooperation between Moscow and Ashgabat.”

“There are many such [platforms] where we interact. Our positions are close and in a number of cases coincide. These are the UN, the Caspian Five, and other formats, including the movement of friends of neutrality, promoted by Ashgabat. On December 11 you have the next meeting of the Group of Friends of Neutrality. We will definitely be adequately represented there,” Lavrov emphasized.

He noted that Moscow is committed to full cooperation in the implementation of cultural and educational projects. “I will highlight one of our flagship projects - the creation of the Russian-Turkmen University and the construction of a new building of the State Russian Drama Theater. Work is underway to construct an additional building for the school named after A.S. Pushkin, he added. - We are sincerely grateful to our Turkmen friends for such attention to this area, to exchanges in the field of culture and education. We perceive your interest in the Russian language positively.”

The negotiations took place on the sidelines of a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian states in Moscow, which is scheduled for December 5.
