Today, the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference started in the capital hotel Oguzkent. On the first day here, priority areas for the work of delegations were identified and the Energy Charter Prize 2017 was awarded. The agenda of the Conference includes the issues of increasing investments in the energy sector of the future and diversification of energy transportation routes on a global scale. Within the framework of the Conference, a number of important documents were signed between the Turkmen side and partners. In particular, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Secretariat of the International Energy Charter on further development of cooperation was adopted. The signing of the Memorandum was another evidence of the successful chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Energy Charter, previously confirmed personally by the Secretary General of the organization, Urban Rusnak. Also, at the end of the Conference, a Protocol was signed on the exchange of ratification instruments approving the agreements between Turkmenistan and Germany on the elimination of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and property.Eziz OVEZOV
Delegates from Gambia, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, whose countries have recently joined the Energy Charter Treaty, took part in the Conference for the first time.
In the view of Urban Rusnak, Turkmenistan is a very promising place for the beginning of the fruitful work of delegations from the African continent. Here they will be able to join the organization's activities, discover new perspectives and join the common cause to strengthen energy security.
The Energy Charter Prize this year was awarded to the Ambassador of Japan in the European Union, Mr. Kazuo Kodama. As the ambassador said, this award reflects the fact that the Charter highly appreciates Japan's contribution to the overall activity of the organization.
The country of the rising sun depends heavily on the supply of energy resources and is interested in balancing the energy market and increasing the safety of their transportation. A major contribution to the stabilization of the market is due to the joint efforts of Japan and Turkmenistan, which in 2015 concluded an agreement on cooperation in the energy sector. The document proposes to jointly implement a number of projects for a total of $18 billion.
Tomorrow the main Ministerial part of the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference will be held. It is expected to serve as a platform for policy dialogue on sustainable investment in energy, reliable transit and diversification of supply routes and energy sources within the International Energy Charter community.
Within the framework of the conference there will also be a ministerial discussion on the possible modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty, which can make tangible adjustments to the organization's activities in the future.
