Javier Miley won the presidential elections in Argentina
Far-right politician, representative of the Freedom Comes party, Javier Miley, becomes the winner of the presidential elections in Argentina.
According to the country's National Electoral Chamber, after counting more than 94% of the votes, Miley received the support of over 55% of voters (more than 13.78 million). This is 11% more than his rival, Argentine Economy Minister Sergio Massa, who represents the ruling center-left Union for the Homeland coalition.
Sergio Massa recognized Miley's victory even before the official results were announced.
“Today begins the recovery of Argentina. This is a historic night,” Javier Miley said after the results were announced.
He promised to switch the country from the peso to the US dollar to combat 140 percent inflation, and also to eliminate the country's Central Bank. The new president will take office on December 10 and will serve until the end of 2027.
