Turkmenistan is ready to increase the volume of natural gas supplies to Iran via the Korpeje-Kurtkui gas pipeline. This was announced during a meeting of the co- chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash.

At a bilateral meeting held on Saturday, November 18, the ministers discussed ways to intensify trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Iran, paying special attention to interaction in the fuel and energy industry, as well as in the transport, logistics and transit sectors.

The possibilities of increasing the export of Turkmen gas to Iran were also discussed during the 17th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation, the second day of which took place on Saturday. The Iranian side welcomed the readiness of Turkmen partners to increase gas supplies through the Korpedje-Kurtkui pipeline.

The opening of the Korpedje-Kurtkui gas pipeline took place in December 1997. Its length from the Turkmen gas field of Korpeje to the Iranian city of Kurtkui is 197 kilometers, of which 132 kilometers run through the territory of Turkmenistan.
