On November 14, 2023, Turkmenistan joined the Main Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for the Development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Corridor, which was adopted in September 1998 in Baku. This is reported in a press release of the country's Foreign Ministry, published on Friday.

The relevant law was adopted by the National Parliament during the session on September 30 and signed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The technical Assistance program "Europe-Caucasus–Asia Transport Corridor", better known as TRACECA, was proposed by the European Union in 1993 to the states of Central Asia, Europe and the Caucasus, which are a natural link between Europe and Asia.

Considered as the main trade corridor of the revived ancient Silk Road, TRACECA is designed to promote stability and economic growth in the region, as well as the entry of the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus into the international market.

The main objective of the program is to facilitate the access of participating States to the international network of road, air and rail transport, commercial maritime navigation, as well as to increase the volume of international passenger and cargo transportation.

The provisions of the Main Multilateral Agreement on International Transport for the Development of the Europe-Caucasus–Asia Transport Corridor regulate international cargo and passenger transportation between the parties, as well as transit transportation through their territories.
