Russia and Kazakhstan are discussing the possibility of a Kazakh cosmonaut's flight. Roscosmos Director General Yuri Borisov announced this on November 9.

Roscosmos maintains close interaction with its Kazakh colleagues and cooperates with them on a number of projects, including the Baiterek project, Director General of the state corporation, Yuri Borisov said, in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

“We are discussing the issue of launching a Kazakh cosmonaut into orbit, so we have very close cooperation,” Borisov added. He also noted that Russia had received a request from Kazakhstan to create a communications satellite.

In addition, Borisov recalled that the possibility of manned flights from the Vostochny cosmodrome has not yet been realized, and all such flights are carried out from Baikonur. “The entire world cosmonautics began with Baikonur. We are, of course, interested in continuing. [It has] a unique geographic location,” he said.

Earlier, Belarus agreed with Russia to send its cosmonaut into orbit. Selected candidates are already undergoing training for the flight, which is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2024.
