Turkmenistan, together with the international community, will celebrate World Sustainable Transport Day for the first time this month. The UN General Assembly announced the date of the new holiday as the day of the first Global Conference on Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat on November 26, 2016. The resolution was adopted on the proposal of Turkmenistan on May 16, 2023 during the 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the General Assembly.

As the initiator country of a new holiday in the world calendar, Turkmenistan plans to hold a series of large and important events dedicated to this event. It will be opened by a meeting of the heads of railway administrations of the countries participating in the CASCA+ multimodal corridor, which will take place on November 15-17 in Ashgabat.

The agenda of the meeting includes a discussion of a number of industry issues, including the possibility of applying tariff preferences for multimodal cargo transportation.

Currently, the CASCA+ Route covers 3 regions - Central Asia - Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, South Caucasus - Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as Anatolia - Turkey. CASCA is the abbreviated name for these regions in English - Central Asia, South Caucasus and Anatolia. The “+” sign in the name of the route indicates a willingness to accept new potential participants interested in transportation along the route, the ultimate goal of which is to connect the states of Southeast Asia, in particular China, with Europe.

CASCA+ participating countries aim to position this route as a single interregional logistics product. The project is being implemented in cooperation between route operators: Oztemiryolcontainer JSC (Uzbekistan), TULM OJSC (Turkmenistan), ADY Container (Azerbaijan) and GR Logistics and Terminals (Georgia).

In addition, the focus next week will also be on building the capacity of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway (KTI corridor). The heads of the railway administrations of these three countries will hold a separate meeting in Ashgabat on November 16.

The importance of the KTI route has been increasing recently, and its prospects are far ahead. The meeting participants will discuss current issues of promoting this corridor in the rapidly developing market of transport and transit services.
