The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the session of the UPR WG in Geneva


The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vep Hajiyev on Monday took part in the fourth review of Turkmenistan within the framework of the 44th session of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), held from November 6 to 17 in Geneva.

The Turkmen side made a report on the main directions of the country's policy on the implementation of its obligations in the field of human rights, and also informed about the progressive changes that made it possible to make significant progress in solving a number of issues identified during the previous – third review cycle in 2018.
The representatives of more than 80 States present at the meeting were informed about the measures taken in the country from 2018 to 2023 to ensure and strengthen human rights, in particular, to expand cooperation with international human rights bodies and mechanisms, positive dynamics in improving national institutions, consistent reform of legislation, ratified international documents in the field of labor, employment, education, economy, ecology. Turkmenistan was presented with a number of recommendations for further improvement in this area.

The results of the review will be made public during the regular session of the Human Rights Council in the first quarter of 2024, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
