This is one of the largest sums the EU has ever spent on non-profit purposes in the region.

The European Union intends to finance a number of projects in Central Asian countries that are related to migration issues and economic development. Particular attention will be paid to human rights, gender equality and support for vulnerable groups. The EU is ready to allocate more than €21 million for these purposes.

The grant for the projects is provided by the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), an organization sponsored by the European Union, RT reports, citing the terms of the tender.

The tender description seen by RT states that the “Central Asia Border Management Assistance Program” is a “long-term initiative.”

As part of the project, it is planned to finance non-profit organizations in five countries of the region - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Among the stated tasks: “providing assistance” to civil society organizations working in border regions, creating discussions in society on issues of migration and border areas.

The tender documentation also notes that priority in issuing grants will be given to organizations that are in close cooperation with the relevant local authorities of Central Asian states.

Another important condition for the implementation of projects within the framework of the EU program should be their so-called visibility, that is, increased public attention to the topics of the project, social resonance.

The general deadline for submitting applications for grants under the program is November 19.
