The international transport corridor “Tajikistan-Europe” can be expanded.

Thus, the initiative to implement the “Crossroads of the World” project was announced at the IV International Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, which ended in the capital of Georgia.

The project involves the development of communications between Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran. This means that the Silk Road, which once ran through the North Caucasus, will now be connected to the South Caucasus hub.

“Thus, another node is being added to the multimodal corridor “China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey – Europe,” Rakhmiddin Salomzoda, head of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan said.

At the negotiations between the leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon, held in May 2023, the transport sector was highlighted as a priority area of bilateral cooperation. In this regard, the importance of increasing efficiency and creating new international transport corridors, including the multimodal “China – Tajikistan-Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey” was emphasized.

The IV International Tbilisi Silk Road Forum was held under the slogan “Connecting Today Resilient Tomorrow” with the participation of about two thousand delegates from 60 countries.

Among them are representatives of the public and private sectors, employees of international organizations from the countries of Central Asia, the Persian Gulf, the USA and China, subject matter experts, and journalists.

They discussed issues of expanding economic cooperation, in particular the creation of a new East-West trade architecture, improving international transport corridors, and attracting investments for a sustainable future.
