Construction of a combined power plant is starting in the Balkan region

In the west of Turkmenistan, in the Turkmenbashi district of the Balkan region, the foundation of a combined power plant with a capacity of 1574 MW will be laid. At the same time, the Mary-Ahal power transmission line, built as part of the formation of a unified ring power system in the country, is also being prepared for commissioning.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Baimyrat Annamammedov informed about upcoming events in the electricity industry during a government meeting on Saturday.
As noted, the new power plant will become the second large facility with a combined steam and gas cycle built in Turkmenistan. Its construction is another confirmation that Turkmenistan not only reliably supplies itself with electricity, but also diversifies export flows to neighboring countries in the region, and is also ready to supply supplies to other countries, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
The head of state signed a decree allowing the Turkmenenergo State Corporation to conclude a contract with the Turkish company Çalik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. for the construction of a new power plant.
The first combined cycle power plant in Turkmenistan with an annual capacity of 1574 MW was commissioned in 2018 in Mary, becoming one of the largest energy facilities in Central Asia.
Combined power plants have a number of advantages compared to conventional gas analogues - they are more environmentally friendly, economical and productive.
