Youth and the world: how are the foundations of friendship of peoples being created in the new century
On Monday, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an international conference on a very topical topic – "Friendship of peoples is a guarantee of a happy future for young people."
The speakers who spoke at the forum comprehensively, from various positions, considered issues related to the place and role of youth in the modern world, as well as the responsibility that lies on the shoulders of young people, and the hopes that humanity places on them.
The very name of the conference, according to the Adviser on Political Issues of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (RCPCA) Andrey Larin, carries a symbol of prevention and focus on uniting young people against potential conflicts to build a harmonious future.
Today's youth is the future of humanity. These are boys and girls who will solve the problems of tomorrow. In addition, it is important that they live in a world where friendship and mutual understanding reign.
In 2018, at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the launch of a new strategy "Youth 2030", as well as a corresponding initiative aimed at empowering young people.
Moreover, in 2020, UN Security Council resolution 2535 was adopted, which is entirely dedicated to youth. This resolution underlines the importance of developing a State youth policy that makes a positive contribution to peace-building, including socio-economic development, in support of projects aimed at developing the local economy, as well as provides employment opportunities and vocational training for young people, including people with disabilities and people with disabilities.
Andrei Larin, the Political Adviser to the United Nations Human Rights Center, asks the question, "In what ways can friendship between peoples contribute to achieving a secure future for young people?" and answers it himself:
First, friendship creates a more peaceful and stable environment. In addition, this means that young people can and should live in a world where they are free from the fear of violence and war.
Secondly, friendship between peoples contributes to economic prosperity. When nations cooperate in economic projects and trade with each other, it creates jobs and opens up new opportunities for everyone. Moreover, this is especially important for young people, who are the main workforce.
Thirdly, friendship between peoples promotes cultural understanding and exchange. When young people from different countries have the opportunity to learn about each other's cultures, it helps to break stereotypes and build bridges of understanding, which is necessary to create a more tolerant and inclusive world.
Speaking at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan about the activities of the United Nations in the Central Asian region, Andrey Larin noted the work of the RCPCA Academy of Preventive Diplomacy. This project to improve the level of knowledge of students of specialized universities in Central Asia and Afghanistan has been going on for the fifth year.
The Academy was created in order to strengthen cooperation and trust between young people in the region, stimulate contacts between people of different communities and, ultimately, create a culture of mutual understanding and trust. This project also serves as a platform for intercultural communication to enhance the regional friendship of young people, their mutual understanding and potential future partnership in the professional sphere.
In the modern world, young people face many challenges. However, if nations can work together to build friendship and cooperation, then we can create a safer future for everyone!
Nevertheless, with what achievements can the world strengthen and promote friendship between peoples and guarantee a secure future for young people?
The Political Adviser of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy believes that it is necessary:
– to create international educational and exchange programs that will enable young people to learn about other cultures and build friendly relations with people from all over the world;
– encourage international trade and investment, which helps create jobs and opportunities for young people in all countries;
– To promote cultural diplomacy, which includes the exchange of our cultures and the promotion of mutual understanding and respect between different peoples;
– support international organizations that work to promote peace and development. These structures play a vital role in creating a safer future for all.
Andrey Larin, summing up what has been said, once again reminded that today's boys and girls are the leaders of tomorrow. In addition, it is the responsibility of any society to create a world in which they can thrive.
