OSCE Secretary General to meet with Central Asian Foreign Ministers in Ashgabat


OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid will visit Turkmenistan on October 31 for meetings with the foreign Ministers of the Central Asian OSCE participating States and other high-ranking officials.
In Ashgabat, the Secretary General will take part in the "Forum of the OSCE Secretary General and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central Asian countries", organized and conducted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, according to the OSCE website.
The high-level strategic discussion will focus on the challenges facing the region, such as the risks to border security, the far-reaching effects of climate change and the opportunities that strengthening ties can bring to the entire region, the report said.
The meeting will provide a platform to identify key opportunities for Central Asian participating States to expand their regional cooperation to address these challenges and discuss how the OSCE can support these efforts.
During his visit, Secretary General Schmid will also meet with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, Minister of Environmental Protection Charygeldi Babaniyazov and other interested parties.
