Iranian port Chabahar is the future regional trading hub
Chabahar port will enhance trade ties among regional countries, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during a recent telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani.
This port, located in southeastern Iran on the coast of the Oman Gulf, is the second largest port in the country after Bandar Abbas.
One of the features that distinguishes it from other Iranian ports and ports on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf is access to the international open seas.
The fundamental infrastructural modernization, funded by India, will bring the capacity of the sea harbor to 86 million tons by 2024. The Indian side intends to complete the project by the end of next year.
Chabahar offers a wide range of opportunities for transit connectivity, providing the minimal transit distance to Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, Central Asia, CIS countries and Europe. Moreover, the port pretends to be the most important logistics hub of the multimodal transport corridor North-South, and in particular its eastern wing - Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway line.
