In September, Uzbekistan sharply increased gas imports from Turkmenistan

In September, Uzbekistan sharply increased imports of natural gas from Turkmenistan, according to data from the Statistics Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Last month, gas supplies to Uzbekistan amounted to $281.6 million. This is more than double the figure for the eight months of 2023.
Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan has imported blue fuel worth $487.9 million, which is 83.4% more than the same value for last year.
As a result, gas imports exceeded exports, which almost halved to $411.7 million. In the last two months, the country has reduced export supplies of blue fuel to China. If in July its gas exports to China amounted to $91.39 million, then in August and September they decreased to $75.27 and $41.62 million, respectively.
The sharp increase in gas imports occurred due to supplies from Turkmenistan, Gazeta.uz clarifies, citing the Statistics Agency.
In September, imports from Turkmenistan increased by $302.3 million, which allowed the country to reach sixth place in terms of trade turnover with Uzbekistan. In general, imports from Turkmenistan amounted to $700.9 million, and exports of Uzbek products to the neighboring country amounted to $129.4 million.
In August in Ashgabat, Turkmengaz and UzGasTrade signed a contract to supply 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas per year to Uzbekistan.
