China and Turkmenistan should increase the volume of bilateral trade, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday during negotiations with Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Xi Jinping said that China is ready to strengthen the coherence between the Belt and Road Initiative and Turkmenistan's development strategy to revive the Great Silk Road, China Daily reported.

According to the Chinese socio-political newspaper, the Chinese leader noted that both sides should strengthen cooperation in the field of medicine and healthcare, sports and tourism, as well as build the Lyuban workshop in Turkmenistan as soon as possible.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening of the third BRF forum charted the course for future cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides should continue to deepen economic and energy cooperation, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and strengthen multilateral communication and coordination through structures such as the China-Central Asia Dialogue, the head of the Khalk Maslahaty said.
