Turkmen specialists participate in conference "Carpet - symbol of Turkic world" in Baku

More than 30 specialists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Gagauzia (Moldova) have gathered in Baku these days to participate in the international conference "Carpet - symbol of the Turkic world". The forum started on October 11 at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum within the framework of the II Meeting of Museums of the Turkic World, AZERTAG reports.
Heads and representatives of museums from Turkic states, specialists of carpet art, as well as the leadership of TURKSOY and other officials will make reports at the sessions. The participants show great interest in such topics as "Carpet - World Cultural Heritage" and "Damga - the language of carpet". As it is known, a carpet in Turkic culture is not just an element of interior. Each carpet is a story told by Oriental craftswomen through their handicrafts.
The conference will be held in Baku for two days, then the event will continue in the city of Shusha.
In Turkmenistan, carpet is one of the main national symbols and is declared a state treasure. In 1993, the National Carpet Museum was opened in Ashgabat, where more than 2,000 exhibits from the oldest carpets to modern carpets, and from the smallest to the largest carpets listed in the Guinness Book of Records are displayed.
Every year Turkmenistan celebrates a national holiday - Turkmen Carpet Day - in May.
