The Third Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum (BRF) will be held in Beijing from Tuesday to Wednesday, October 17-18.

The High-level Forum is the most important diplomatic event held by China this year and the most significant celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative.

On Monday, October 16, the first press briefing of the BRF Media Center was held at the Chinese National Convention Center in Beijing, where representatives of the PRC departments informed the press and answered questions.

Xinhua provides an overview of what to expect from the upcoming forum dedicated to the theme "High-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road: Together for common development and prosperity."

Development of a new project

Chinese President Xi Jinping will take part in the opening ceremony of the Third BRF Forum, deliver a keynote speech, and hold a welcome banquet and bilateral events for the guests of the forum.

To date, representatives of more than 140 countries and more than 30 international organizations have confirmed their participation in the third BRF. More than 4,000 delegates have registered to participate.

Xi Jinping will work with all participants to create a new plan for high-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

In 2013, Xi Jinping unveiled his proposal for the joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

The BRI initiative was proposed by China, but it belongs to the whole world, Xi Jinping said during the first BRF in May 2017.

Since its launch 10 years ago, BRI has transformed from ideas to actions, from vision to reality. By June 2023, China has signed more than 200 Belt and Road cooperation agreements with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations on five continents, which has led to the emergence of a number of landmark projects and small but effective projects.

Expected results

In addition to the opening ceremony of the third BRF, three high-level forums will be held simultaneously to discuss in-depth issues of connectivity, green development and the digital economy. In addition, six thematic forums will be held in parallel on the topics of trade relations, people-to-people relations, exchange between analytical centers, the pure Silk Road, regional cooperation and maritime interaction.

A conference of heads of delegations will also be held during the BRF. The Chairman's statement will be published to reflect the consensus reached by the participants and to outline the future direction and key areas of high-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road.

A list of the results of multilateral cooperation and a list of practical projects will also be published, which will present the results achieved within the framework of three high-level forums and six thematic forums.

It is expected that the third BRF will bring significant results both in the form of documents, initiatives and cooperation mechanisms, as well as in terms of projects, funds and measures. The total number of results is likely to exceed the results of the two previous forums, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said in an interview with Xinhua.
