An international organization for the Russian language will be created in the CIS
The creation of the International Organization for the Russian Language was approved by the heads of foreign affairs departments of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS, which was held in Bishkek on October 12.
Following the meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a statement was adopted in support of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication, RIA Novosti reports.
“On the same topic, a document was approved that establishes an international organization for the Russian language, open to any interested country, including those not part of the CIS,” the diplomat noted.
The goal of the International Organization is to popularize the Russian language in the world. The agreement on its establishment will be signed, as expected, following the CIS summit in Bishkek on October 13.
Let us recall that the initiative to create this intergovernmental structure was made by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In the CIS, 2023 has been declared the Year of the Russian Language.
