The Turner Center in St. Petersburg has started offering a new method of treating congenital spinal deformity to patients in the younger age group. The unique development is the work of scientists and doctors of the Union State. It allows sick children to recover fully and breathe fully, BelTA reports.

People with such a diagnosis rarely live to the age of 25. A few years ago, there was simply no way to help such kids. The scientists' "know-how" is based on the use of a special computer program that allows creating 3D models of the spine area and templates-guides, which are then used in the surgery of spinal malformations in children.

Modeling allows selecting the exact dimensions for each patient and as a result, the curvature of the spinal column is corrected and the shape of the thorax is normalized.

The unique structures are made of titanium alloy, which almost never causes rejection. They are manufactured in the territory of the Union State, and the technique is currently used in Russia and Belarus. Doctors at the Turner Center are already training colleagues in other regions.

"We have taken our developments to the CIS countries. In particular, in the Republics of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. There we also have specialists in research institutes with whom we cooperate," said Sergey Vissarionov, Director of the Turner Center.
