An organization to support the Russian language was established at the CIS summit
The heads of state of the CIS signed an agreement on the creation of an International Organization for the Support and Promotion of the Russian Language during a meeting on October 13 in Bishkek.
As CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev said at an expanded meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State, exactly a year ago, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States, proposed creating an international structure to support and promote the Russian language.
According to him, the concept of creating this organization was approved.
The Secretariat of the International Russian Language Organization will be located in Sochi (Russia).
The main goal of the organization is to develop and strengthen relations of friendship, good neighborliness and mutual understanding between countries, strengthening comprehensive cooperation in promoting the Russian language as a language of international communication.
The organization will resolve multifaceted issues, including promoting the training of teaching and scientific personnel in the field of Russian philology, strengthening the material and technical base of the educational process in the field of the Russian language, translating literary works of classics and modern authors into Russian and into the languages of the peoples of other countries. The highest body of the organization will be a ministerial conference.
