The “Digital Silk Road” project was presented at the 27th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization, held in Shusha. The event was attended by executives of AzerTelecom, who informed participants about the strategic importance and main components of the Digital Silk Road project, Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.

It was noted that the digital infrastructure that will be built within the country, as well as along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and the countries of Central Asia as part of the project, will form a new digital telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia and will have a significant impact on the future of the large region, thanks to its contribution to multiterabit data transmission and acceleration of digitalization.

AzerTelecom and Türkmentelekom are working on a project for the joint construction, ownership and use of a fiber optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea in the direction of Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan (Turkmenbashi and Siyazan).

It was also previously reported that a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea along the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan route will be launched by the end of 2024.
