The Canadian Ambassador received accreditation by presenting credentials to the Mejlis of Turkmenistan

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan Alan Hamson presented his credentials to the Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova and began to perform his diplomatic duties. The meeting took place in Ashgabat on October 10, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Head of the Parliament congratulated the diplomat on his appointment on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan and wished success in strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The diplomat, in turn, conveyed greetings and best wishes from the top leadership of Canada to Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Gulmanova told the Ambassador about the key directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy and about the large-scale programs and projects being implemented in the country. A separate topic of the conversation was the activity of the Mejlis and its role in the context of the democratic reforms launched in Turkmenistan and the provision of a legislative and legal framework. The parties agreed to develop inter-parliamentary ties that will contribute to the enrichment of Turkmen-Canadian relations.
It was noted at the meeting that the countries have great potential for expanding partnership in the trade and economic sphere and in the cultural and humanitarian field. The political and diplomatic dialogue, as well as the interaction between Turkmenistan and Canada in the format of the UN and other authoritative international organizations, is also constructive, the interlocutors stated.
