In Kabul on Saturday, a contract was signed with a local private company to carry out the remaining work to complete the 500 kV Turkmenistan-Afghanistan power transmission line.

Acting Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Afghanistan Abdul Latif Mansour said that this project will be completed in two years, and its implementation will solve the electricity needs of residents and industrialists of Kabul and other provinces, TOLOnews.com. writes.

The project will be resumed after a two-year suspension, and the contracting company must invest $75 million, which will then be reimbursed by the contracting agency.

“Thanks to the investment of a domestic company, they will extend a 500 kV line over 128 kilometers from Dasht Alwan to Chowk Arghandi. From Dasht Alwan to Shabargan, a contract has been signed with another company,” Abdul Latif Mansur said.

The Afghan Ministry of Energy considers this project one of the most significant infrastructure projects for providing electricity to the central, eastern and southern provinces, including the capital.

The 500 kV line project, originating in Turkmenistan, started in 2016 with financial support from the Asian Development Bank, but with the restoration of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, the bank's financial assistance and work on this project were stopped.
