Athletes of Turkmenistan took part in the opening ceremony of the 19th Summer Asian Games, which took place at the stadium of the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center. The stadium seats 80 thousand people.

The honor of becoming the standard bearer fell to swimmer Merdan Ataev and judoka Maysa Pardaeva. The opening ceremony of the Asian Games was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as invited leaders and officials from Asian countries.

During the large-scale performance, which included performances by artists, digital fireworks and the lighting ceremony of the Asian Games flame, a procession of teams took place.

In total, more than 15 thousand athletes from 45 Asian countries will take part in the games. 481 sets of medals will be awarded in 40 sports.

Turkmen athletes will represent the country in sports such as 3x3 basketball, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, jujitsu, judo, kurash wrestling, karate, athletics, swimming, weightlifting and wushu.

Asian Games 2022 from September 23 to October 8. The 19th Asian Summer Games in Hangzhou were originally scheduled to be held from September 10 to 25, 2022, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the competition was postponed to 2023.
