Turkmenistan has granted citizenship to more than 1,300 people and allowed residence to 265 foreigners

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on Friday granting Turkmen citizenship to 1,301 people and a decree granting 265 foreign citizens permission to reside in the country.

The documents were prepared on the basis of the Law of Turkmenistan “On Migration” and generally recognized international standards for the protection of human rights and freedoms, as noted in the evening news release of Turkmen television.

It was also announced that these 1,301 people permanently residing in our country and who received Turkmen citizenship are representatives of 32 nationalities, and the 265 people who are allowed to reside represent 25 nationalities and are citizens of 13 states.

The relevant departments have been instructed to continue work on processing documents of stateless persons who have applied for citizenship of Turkmenistan, as well as on processing documents of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have applied to obtain a residence permit in the country.

In general, over the years, 29 thousand 697 stateless people received citizenship of Turkmenistan, and 4 thousand 753 foreign citizens and stateless persons were given permission to reside in the country.
