Ashgabat is ready to host the UN Forum on Food Security
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the plenary session of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, proposed convening a major international forum on food security.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic and other unfavorable factors have exposed the vulnerability of those states where this problem has not been resolved, where the population does not receive adequate nutrition.
According to Serdar Berdimuhamedov, unity, integrity and determination are needed when considering issues related to access of states and regions to food resources, as well as breakthrough solutions and new approaches that overcome political, ideological, and market barriers.
“Based on this, Turkmenistan comes up with the initiative to convene, under the auspices of the UN, in cooperation with the World Food Program, the World Health Organization, the UN Children's Fund, a major international forum on food security,” TDH quotes the head of state as saying.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his readiness to provide conditions for holding such an event in the capital of Turkmenistan.
