Turkmen athletes were awarded four medals at the Asian Grappling Championships

The Asian Grappling Championship — AIGA ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 has ended in Tashkent. 1200
athletes from 11 Asian countries took part in the tournament. Turkmen grapplers under the leadership of
Dovletmyrat Kasimov and Ismail Kakovov showed a decent result and won four medals. Of them: one

The Asian Grappling Championship — AIGA ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 has ended in Tashkent. 1200 athletes from 11 Asian countries took part in the tournament. Turkmen grapplers under the leadership of Dovletmyrat Kasimov and Ismail Kakovov showed a decent result and won four medals. Of them: one gold, one silver and two bronze.

The gold medal was won by Abdulakhat Kakovov (51 kg), a student of the specialized school No. 97 of the Buzmeyin etrap of the city of Ashgabat. He became the Asian champion in his weight category.

The silver medal was won by a student of secondary school No. 19 Kayumberdi Dovletov (+85 kg). He lost only to the winner in his weight.

Bronze medals were awarded to a student of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction Shyhberdi Rahmanov (65 kg) and a native of Ashgabat Muhammetali Gurbanov (66 kg).

Grappling is a type of martial arts that combines different styles of wrestling: judo, sambo, jiu-jitsu, freestyle, Greco-Roman. Participants fight both in the rack and in the stalls, with a minimum number of prohibited techniques.
