Social enterprises were reconstructed in Turkmenistan as part of a project for the employment of disabled people

The reconstruction and re-equipment of three social enterprises of the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan is being completed - in Ashgabat, Mary and Turkmenabat. Now members of the Society are trained in the rules of operation and maintenance of modern printing and sewing equipment, which will help them become more competitive in the labor market.
The project “Accessible Work for Persons with Disabilities in Turkmenistan: Transforming Social Enterprises for Educational Opportunities and Decent Work” is being implemented jointly by UNDP and the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan with the financial support of donor organizations.
On Friday, September 15, UNDP and national partners discussed important issues related to inclusive education and employment of persons with disabilities. They gathered for the “round” in the UN building in Ashgabat. The meeting was devoted to issues of promoting vocational education and employment of people with disabilities. International best practices and the development of recommendations were reviewed in this context.
The event was attended by representatives of government agencies, including the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the Ministry of Education, as well as representatives of the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan and other local civil society organizations working with people with disabilities, and other national partners.
“The event continued the dialogue to discuss the links between employment and the knowledge and skills needed to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities. It contributes to UNDP efforts to disseminate global knowledge and exchange experience with national partners regarding government policies in the field of vocational education and employment of persons with disabilities in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the National Action Plan for Human Rights of Turkmenistan for 2021-2025.”, - the UNDP commented.
