The President of Turkmenistan and the Governor of St. Petersburg reviewed promising projects
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met on Monday, September 11, with Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, who arrived in Ashgabat the day before at the head of an official delegation.
During the conversation, the results of cooperation and promising projects were discussed, spbdnevnik.ru reported.
“The government of St. Petersburg attaches special importance to our partnerships. They fully comply with the policy of deepening the strategic partnership and the agreements that were reached between you and Russian President Vladimir Putin,” the publication quotes the governor.
Beglov thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his attention to St. Petersburg, noting that cooperation with Turkmenistan is today successfully developing in the trade, economic, educational, scientific and cultural spheres.
Large infrastructure projects are being implemented in Turkmenistan. St. Petersburg companies take part in the construction of road and engineering infrastructure facilities. Among the latest implemented projects is a complex of mudflow drainage structures in the south of Ashgabat, built by the “Vozrozhdenie” company. The facilities were opened in November last year with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan.
The partnership in the energy sector continues. The “Power Machines” company successfully cooperates with “Turkmenenergo”. A joint working group has been created to study the economic, financial and technical feasibility of modernization projects for the old units of the Turmenbashi Thermal Power Plant and the Mary-1 Hydroelectric Power Station.
During the meeting, the issue of holding the St. Petersburg-Turkmen business forum was discussed. An agreement on this was reached during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to St. Petersburg for a meeting of leaders of the CIS countries in October 2022. The forum will provide an opportunity to find new areas of economic cooperation.
An important step will be the establishment of sister city ties between St. Petersburg and the new city of Arkadag. The agreement is scheduled to be signed today.
Beglov noted that the issue of installing a monument to the great classic of Turkmen literature Magtymguly Fragi in St. Petersburg is being resolved. In February of this year, a delegation from the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan visited St. Petersburg. A location was chosen for the monument in the historical center.
Beglov said that last academic year more than a thousand students from Turkmenistan studied at St. Petersburg universities.
Last December, during negotiations between the heads of relevant departments of Russia and Turkmenistan, agreements on the creation of a joint Russian-Turkmen University were reached. An initiative group of St. Petersburg scientists came up with a proposal to create the Turkmen Institute of Electronics and Nanotechnologies named after Zhores Alferov.
Beglov emphasized that the further development of partnerships with Turkmen partners will remain one of the priorities of the foreign economic and international activities of St. Petersburg.
