Laos has joined the Friends of Sustainable Transport Group

The Lao People's Democratic Republic has joined the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport established on the initiative of Turkmenistan in 2022. This is reported by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.
Laos has no access to the sea, so it is very important for the country to have a well-developed road, railway and aviation infrastructure. In recent years, Laos has been actively cooperating with neighboring countries such as China, Vietnam and Thailand to improve its transport capabilities and integrate into the regional economic community.
By joining the UN Group of Friends for Sustainable Transport (GFST), Laos thereby declared its commitment to achieving the SDGs on sustainable transport and the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries.
The Friends of Sustainable Transport Group was established on July 6, 2022 at the initiative of Turkmenistan at a meeting attended by more than 90 representatives of UN member States. It is an informal community that promotes sustainable transport as a key factor of development and cooperation at all levels. The Group also serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices in this field.
