Digital multiplatform storytelling to create unique stories and projects

August 25, 2023 | 21:42 |5378
What needs to be done to make your voice heard in a world that is saturated and overloaded with the flow of information, background noise and people? In an era when everyone is reducing the amount of attention, how to tell a story that can "hook" others and make you think and be inspired to change your life? These topics were discussed by a team of various specialists, including national media, young freelance journalists and opinion leaders in social networks at a three-day seminar on multiplatform digital storytelling organized in Ashgabat by the UNICEF Office in Turkmenistan. What needs to be done to make your voice heard in a world that is saturated and overloaded with the flow of information, background noise and people? What needs to be done to make your voice heard in a world that is saturated and overloaded with the flow of information, background noise and people? In an era when everyone is reducing the amount of attention, how to tell a story that can "hook" others and make you think and be inspired to change your life? These topics were discussed by a team of various specialists, including national media, young freelance journalists and opinion leaders in social networks at a three-day seminar on multiplatform digital storytelling organized in Ashgabat by the UNICEF Office in Turkmenistan.

Akim Mogaji, a well–known name in the field of media production, training and mentoring around the world - in Africa, Europe, America, shared his experience and knowledge with the audience. He is also not a newcomer in Turkmenistan, he is known here, thanks to the innovative media content he created.

On the first day of the workshop, participants explored the nuances of digital storytelling in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Through the prism of humor, emotions and authenticity, they began to search for a story that can really resonate with people. In the creative competition, experts laid the foundation for a multiplatform narrative and impact on society.

At the next stage, the participants turned from students into creators. The forum space was "boiling" from the totality of the energy of cooperation, which was fueled by a variety of talents and experience working with platforms. The participants were divided into three groups – they were given the task to create a digital storyboard and a content project. Combining minds and skills from different fields of activity – representatives of the Ministry of Health, members of the State Television Committee, digital writers, copywriters, illustrators, opinion leaders in social networks, photographers, web designers - formed creative groups with a variety of points of view, views and opinions, but united by a common motivation, passion and commitment.

The participants were given 24 hours to create multiplatform content that would resonate with the digital audience. They combined ideas, words and visual effects to "write" a story that can leave an indelible impression.

"Today we saw some great examples of how digital illustrations combined with sounds can tell an emotional story. I found not just knowledge, but also inspiration. When we delved into the essence of the narrative, I realized that every stroke and every word has the power to shape worlds," said Shirin Begmyradova, an illustrator from Ashgabat, a participant in the project.

On the final day, the teams presented their digital product — narratives that go beyond the screens, ready to leave their mark on various platforms and communities. One group demonstrated a unique concept of design and art form, the other — an exceptional ability to use the storyline on various platforms – in print, video, mail and radio. The third line-up presented an incredible approach worthy of a startup candidate in the private sector.

Each presentation was unique and impressive. Each piece was a testament to the newfound skills and inspiration of the participants, whether it was a pixel dance of illustrations or a lyrical narrative. These digital products, prepared with a creative approach, are ready to penetrate the hearts and minds of the population.

"It's amazing that my photos are already a digital product that can have a big impact when telling a story. In 24 hours, we came up with the idea of eco-friendly fashion to encourage locals to consume less clothes and instead use vintage outfits or redesign their grandmothers' clothes for a more eco-friendly future. We presented our project, and our group was nominated as the best entrepreneurial idea." - said Bahar Begniyazova, a freelance photographer from the Lebap Velayat.

The initiative conducted by UNICEF gave the gathered specialists new skills and "grew" a community of storytellers who became the owners of the key that opens the door to a change.
