Turkey celebrates Victory Day
On August 30, Türkiye celebrates a national holiday - Victory Day (Zafer Bayrami). It was on this day in 1922 that the Turks won the Battle of Dumlupinar.
August 30 marked a turning point in Turkish history. The offensive of the Turkish army under the command of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, which began on August 26, 1922 and ended on August 30 with the defeat of the enemy troops, went down in history as one of the greatest examples of heroism.
By tradition, on this day, festive events are held throughout the country - parades, concerts are held, a Janissary march sounds in memory of the country's military victories. People, including the head of the republic together with the country's officials, lay flowers at the mausoleum of Ataturk.
