50 shades of red: thousands of owners of fiery hair gathered in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands over the weekend, the annual Redhead Days festival took place. Thousands of owners of fiery hair from different countries gathered in the city of Tilburg on the occasion of this day.
According to organizers, nearly 5,000 redheads attended the current festival, which offered painting, makeup and skincare tips, photo shoots, music and speed competitions, Reuters says.
It all started in 2005 when Dutch artist Bart Ruvenhorst decided to draw 15 red- haired people. He placed an ad for all interested models and received 150 responses.
The event has grown in popularity over the years and now draws redheads from over 80 countries including the UK, Australia, the US and Germany.
People make a special trip to imagine their fiery hair in the company of their own kind.
The festival holds the world record for finding the largest number of natural redheads in one place.
